Yeah, really!  Well, it'll be crap, but yeah!  I'm not a believer in "writer's block".  I DO believe in video games and movies and girls and naps and stuff like that.  That being said, I think I'm having troubles coming up with ideas.  The stuff I come up with on my own is all sorts of horrible.  When people say, "Hey, why don't you try this..." it's less crappy.  Maybe I'm just too close to it.  Assignment time!  So how about this?  You comment with something you'd like to see and I'll draw it.  Who knows?  Maybe you'll help me go from "horrible artist" to "mediocre".

So I've had quite a few people asK me what Mac L. Pirata is, why it's on my DA, and, quite frankly, why it's associated with me at all.  Here's the first of any sort of FAQ's I'm sure I'll be writing.

When first I set out to become a writer I had a lot of personal things to say.  So personal, in fact, that if certain family members ever read what I wrote, they just may stop associating with me.  To keep this from happening, I created the pseudonym "Mac L. Pirata".  It was something of a reference to my beloved Steve the Pirate from "Dodgeball".  "Mac L. Pirata" = "Mac el pirata" = español for "Mac the Pirate".

Mac was a little-known nick name at the time.  This is how I got it:

From birth my son has used his toes like monkey toes.  So I've always called him monkey.  I have a Russian friend who always called him Macaka (monkey in Russian).  When I started playing Final Fantasy XI on PS2 I created a character whose race was called TaruTaru.  I decided to design him after my son.  The Tarus usually have cutesy names and talky-walky like this.  Kuku and Poko-woko were common name-types for this race.  It seemed appropriate that I name my character in suit.  Makaka was taken, so I named him Macaka.

People started calling me "Mac" for short in the game.  As the months turned into years (as months tend to do), some of these people came to know me outside of our virtual world and the name carried over.  When it came time to choose a pen name, I went with Mac because it was well known within the right demographic circles, and did not overlap with my family life (outside my now-ex-wife).

Holy freakin' shmack, Batman!  This was an event!  It wasn't quite as busy as All-Con was per se, but I sure as shelacky was!  I cranked out about twice as many drawings this time around as I did at All-Con.  Met some new fans, new friends, and some amazing talent!  So much local talent!  I was a fan of a few of these guys, so it was great to get to meet them.  I sat across from :icondanerot: all weekend and that was pretty cool.  I shared a table with Thomas Overbeck www.timeslikethis.com again and sat next to :iconchrisozfulton:, :iconmchampion:, & :iconchrissummersarts:.

Some of the people I got to meet this weekend includes :icongattadonna:, :iconfickle-psyche:, :iconvinhluanluu:, :iconbrentpeeples:, :iconevanbryce: & :iconkijikun:.

If I missed ya, it's nothing personal.

This weekend was a huge learning experience for me.  I picked the brains of a few of the artists and received critiques and tips as well.  Challenges from the con-goers definitely helped as a few of them pushed my creative limits and technical abilities.  I can't wait to see some of this stuff come back!

Over the next few days I'll be scanning and posting I acquired this past weekend.  If I bought it from you, fear not, I shall do the linky linky thing and credit you appropriately.  If it's something I made, well screw you, I can say what I want!  If you have something I made for ya, I'd love it if you'd scan it and upload it here!  Let me know where it is!

Thanks to all who came out!  Next stop: Heroes Con (maaaaybe...)
If not that, SAN DIEGO, BABY, YEAH! (sans the table)
I can guarantee ya I'll be at DCC in August.

Come see me, yo!  Better stuff to be sure!

That's right, you dirty li'l geeks.  The Richardson Sci-Fi Expo is NEXT WEEKEND!  I will be in attendance as "talent" on both days.  These days are April 18-19 at the Richardson Civic Center.  You can find me sitteing next to Thomas Overbeck (creator of "Times Like This") doodlin' on my lappy, drawin' pictures of my bunny, and jokin' about the impending zombie apocalypse.

So come on by!  Throw a few bucks at me and I'll draw a picture of ya gettin' killed by my homicidal bunny Clyde.  I'll also do some actual sketches/commission stuff, just keep in mind you're buying crap.  As my card says:  "Great Writer.  Horrible Artist."  Don't kid yerself, kiddos.  For an idea of what my bunny is all about, check out my webcomic "DEATH BY BUNNY" www.deathbybunny.net

But if you want some REAL artwork, stop by and see these awesome gents:
